Micro business users, often sole traders or very small operations, worry most about basic yet high-impact threats like phishing and ransomware due to limited resources for defense. These concerns align with UK-specific trends where SMEs face frequent attacks but lack training. Common topics reflect everyday vulnerabilities rather than enterprise-level issues. Top Threats Phishing tops the list, affecting over 80% of breaches through deceptive emails or QR codes that trick users into revealing data. Ransomware follows closely, encrypting files and demanding payment, with incidents doubling recently for small firms. Malware, including viruses from downloads or USBs, disrupts operations and steals data. Access Issues Weak passwords and reuse across accounts enable credential stuffing and easy breaches. Lack of multi-factor authentication (MFA) and poor access controls heighten risks, especially in remote setups. Emerging Worries AI-driven attacks and deepfakes concern 18-35% of UK SMEs, automating sophisticated scams. Cloud vulnerabilities and IoT device flaws expose data as adoption grows. Basic Defenses Outdated software, insecure Wi-Fi, and no backups amplify all risks for micro businesses. Many lack employee training or policies, making human error the weakest link.
